Why Writing?: My Story of Why I Love to Write

Introduction: I have decided to write a post specifically on why I have fallen in love with writing as a whole. Now that I have written a post on why I love baseball a while back, I thought I would write up something similar and focus more on writing and my passion for it. I hope you all enjoy my personal blog post of what attracted me to writing.

Writing in general is so broad. I can write about anything I could think of, but obviously I love baseball, and like to correspond it into my writing. As I have mentioned in a few of my previous posts, I would have my grandma write in notebooks of what I could think up. Almost every time she wrote, the topic was about baseball, which is not hard to imagine!

Why I Write: The main reason why I write is because I have a speech impediment called stuttering. Stuttering, is a repetition of sounds and words, an inconsistent flow of speech. I try to include bits and pieces of stuttering often in my posts to encourage others that they can do anything they set their mind to, no matter the circumstances that they may face. Stuttering is not to be taken lightly and I am determined to get that message across every once and awhile because I deal with it every day, although I do not think anything of it because I am so used to it.

Saying What I Want To Say: Another reason why I love to write, is because I can say what I want to say without avoiding words when I talk to people in real life. Basically, I let my writing do the talking. The previous statement may sound funny or weird, but it is true. Sure, I have conversations with people, but not all that I want to say comes out because I often will avoid saying certain words. I have to talk, it is a must, there is no way around it. Talking is one of the main skills and things people do in life to communicate with each other. Even though I do not like talking, I think of stuttering like a daily challenge, and as a result, I will soon conquer it!!! Even though I have had stuttered for almost 15 years of my life and never remember speaking "normal", I still have hope that one day it will be gone. I will never let stuttering define who I am as a person, because life is way too short and it is not worth worrying or getting anxious over the little things.

Writing has allowed me to communicate with you all in a way that it is easier for me to say what I am thinking about baseball or whatever topic it may be. Honestly, my speech impediment has been a blessing because I do not know if I would have started writing in the first place and had created my own blog if I did not stutter. For the longest time, I always thought of my stuttering as a negative, but now I think of it as a positive! Some days it is hard to think of it in this kind of way, but I manage to push through.

Details Are Everything: Adding details to my writing is a must for me because it will hopefully attract the reader to the article and the certain topic that I am writing about. Being creative is one of the most important things in writing. Whether it be describing something or someone to the very smallest of details, such as Jacob deGrom's Rawlings glove with bright orange stitching, to George Springer's tall Stance socks, or just mentioning something small in a sentence, if my writing does not feature details I feel like the whole article is dull and honestly quite boring. If I were to read my blog for the first time and I did not see any detail, I might as well leave the site and go somewhere else.

Copying the stats and putting it on the page would be so boring if I did not add any detail. Personally, I have seen writers do this and I will literally close out of the site because they do not add any details about the player and their characteristics. Obviously, I do not do this with every player, but it is great to give the reader a visual picture of each player to some degree. Whether it be how they look, or small things they do that the majority of people would not catch. Adding these small details can really make the article flow even better than it originally did. The same goes for game recaps, I like to include at least one thing that happened during each inning so that it makes it easier for the reader to follow along. Writing about something that happened in the first inning and then writing about something that happened in the fifth inning makes no sense to me. Although the innings in between might have been boring, at least add in something to make the article flow. To me, this is where carelessness comes into play, almost like the writer has not paid attention to the game during those innings. Everyone writes a different way, but if the writer does not add any details they are going to struggle and the article is not going to have any juice. This will make me question if they really know the players and the sport of baseball as a whole.

Giving My Opinion: Giving my opinion on certain sports topics is also high on the list. For instance, I think Jacob deGrom is the best pitcher on the planet and it is not even close. Another opinion of mine would be that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is better than Shohei Ohtani, even though Ohtani can both pitch and hit. If one of my readers were to disagree I could honestly care less. Sure, I would listen to their opinion because it would be an interesting argument, but I know that I have done my research and I trust my baseball instinct to just know who is better than whoever the other player is. Things like this allow me to voice my opinion without having to actually talk which is a game changer for me!

Showing Emotion: My love for writing allows me to express my emotions or feelings through the words that I write or type. I do not talk that great, so writing allows me to express myself in a way to get all my words out. What I write is what I am feeling or how I feel in the given moment or current situation. My hope is that I transfer my feelings to my readers so that they too can feel the same feelings and emotions that I am. If I did not have any emotion writing, then why even write in the first place? Showing emotion through words will show the audience how much the writer cares about the subject. The type of emotion I think of when I write is something similar to a pitcher getting out of a jam and screaming as he heads off the mound. This is just one of the many emotions that I feel when I write! Giving it everything I have until the tank, or in my case, ideas in my head are empty. My ultimate goal is to give the readers my very best, no matter what!

Final Thoughts: I hope I have given you all a deeper look into why I love to write! Feel free to share my story with anyone who might like to hear it. This is why I do these personal posts, so that I can share my past experiences with others. Writing is a passion of mine that I will always love! I thank God that He has given me this gift!

See you at the Ballpark!!!

Adam
