I have decided to start writing a weekly series simply titled "The deGrom Weekly Update". This will strictly be on New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom and his historic season so far. Each post will include results of his previous outings, his current stat line, who he faces in the given week, and my predictions of how he will perform. I do not know how I have not thought of this idea before, but I want to be able to remember his historic season in some way. This is something that has to be typed out, so I am going to make it happen!
Note: This will be the last deGrom Weekly Update until after the All-Star Break. He is scheduled to start twice this week, so that means I will be doing two deGrom predictions this week!

Current Jake News: Jake struggled in the first inning at Truist Park on Thursday, July 1st. After giving up a leadoff triple, Ozzie Albies singled to center to drive in Ehire Adrianza. The RBI single was deGrom's first run that he had given up on the road this season. He slapped his glove in frustration as he watched the ball fall right in front of center fielder Kevin Pillar. Austin Riley followed up Ozzie's single with a two-run home run to right field. When the inning ended, deGrom slammed his glove on the dugout bench. My eyes were as big as saucers when I saw Austin Riley had hit a home run off of Jake, I could not believe it. Then the best right arm in baseball was officially activated from the second inning on, as he retired 18 in a row after allowing back to back hits in the second frame and struck out eight consecutive Braves. deGrom struck out a season-high 14, while going seven innings in the process. Even though he struck out a lot of batters, I was still bummed that he gave up three runs, knowing that he had done "bad" according to my standards and probably his standards as well.
Jacob deGrom's Next Scheduled Start: Tuesday, July 6th, vs. Milwaukee Brewers, 7:10 PM, EDT
Outing Outlook: A home start in good ole' Flushing should do deGrom good. The Brewers are in a tough spot, because I would not want to be the team who faces deGrom after a bad start. Milwaukee does not quite have the lineup firepower that Atlanta has, so another strong outing by deGrom will obviously be likely.
deGrom's Opponent: Brett Anderson- LHP
We had Ian Anderson last week and this week we have Brett Anderson, who is also a leftie. A former member of the Oakland A's, Brett Anderson is average at best. He is coming off an outing against the D-Backs way back on June 21st. Anderson only went an inning and a third, while giving up three runs, on five hits. He left the game with a knee injury, but the Brewers expect he will return to the rotation on Tuesday, July 6th just in time for his start.
Brett Anderson's Current 2021 Stat Line: 2-5, 4.69 ERA, 1.46 WHIP
My Prediction: The Brewers might as well go home after Monday's game, get on a plane back to Milwaukee, and slide down the yellow slide in left field at Miller Park with Bernie the Brewer, their mascot. I bet they would have more luck getting to the bottom of the slide than they would getting a run off of deGrom. All jokes aside, I think Jake may give up one run, but not have 14 strikeouts like he did in his previous outing.
My deGrom Prediction: Pitching Line: 7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 11 SO, 2 BB, W
My deGrom Prediction: Batting Line: 1-3 with a double.
Jacob deGrom's Next (Potential) Start: Sunday, July 11th, Pittsburgh Pirates, 1:10 PM, EDT
Outing Outlook: Potentially deGrom's last start before the All-Star Break, this one is almost laughable. He will most likely not pitch in the All-Star Game, which to me means he will be emptying his tank against one of the worst teams in the league. Oh boy, this game will be one for the ages. The poor Pirates have virtually no shot against Jacob Anthony deGrom unless there is some sort of luck involved. I will go on to the next portion of this post, because their is no need to keep elaborating on this game.
deGrom's Opponent: Chad Kuhl- RHP
Chad Kuhl could be described as well below average. With an ERA above five on the season, this simply has not been Kuhl's year, much like every other season that he has been apart of. No offense to Khul, but he has no shot in the game and is pitching just for the paycheck.
Chad Kuhl's Current 2021 Stat Line: 2-5, 5.16 ERA, 1.46 WHIP
Note: I just realized Anderson's and Kuhl's record and WHIP are the same, kind of weird.
My Prediction: deGrom will come out carving in this one. Kevin Newman, Bryan Reynolds, and Ke'Bryan Hayes have no shot against the greatest pitcher on Earth. The recipe will result in an easy dub and a lot of punch outs for deGrom.
My deGrom Prediction: Pitching Line: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 12 SO, W
My deGrom Prediction: Batting Line: 2-3 with two singles and an RBI
Final Thoughts: A pretty easy pair of opponents for deGrom to close out the first half. I hope these two outings will result in two more wins on the season, which would bring his record to 9-2 if he is successful.
See you at the Ballpark!!!
Adam
