Spring Training Week 3 Recap: March 14th- March 20th

I will be highlighting specific games and individual player performances for the weekly period.


Sunday March 14th

Nationals vs. Astros

Juan Soto went 2-3

Stephen Strasburg lasted 2.1 innings, but left with a calf injury.

Carlos Correa hit a solo home run.


Royals vs. Dodgers

Dodgers Corey Seager hit his fourth home run of the spring.

Royals prospect Bobby Witt Jr. hit his third home run of the spring.

Royals Brady Singer pitched four innings of one run ball.


Other Notable Player Performances From Sunday's Spring Games:

Braves Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a home run.

Yankees Deivi Garica pitched three scoreless innings, striking out two.

Blue Jays prospect Simeon Woods-Richardson pitched three scoreless relief innings.

Cardinals Jordan Hicks and Mets Luis Guillorme had a 22 pitch battle, ending in a walk.

Padres Yu Darvish pitched three perfect innings.


Monday March 15th

Phillies vs. Yankees

Phillies Rhys Hoskins hit a home run.

Yankees Domingo German pitched four scoreless innings, striking out six.

Gary Sanchez went 1-3 with an RBI.

Giancarlo Stanton went 2-4, driving in two.


Padres vs. Brewers

Blake Snell pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit/

Keston Hiura went 1-2.

The Padres offense was on all cylinders, scoring 13 runs.


Other Notable Player Performances From Monday's Spring Games:

Nationals Max Scherzer pitched four scoreless innings, striking out seven Cardinals.

Red Sox Bobby Dalbec went 2-3, scoring a run.

Tigers prospect Matt Manning pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Braves Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a home run.

White Sox Eloy Jimenez went 2-4, driving in three.

Dodgers Corey Seager hit a home run.


Tuesday March 16th

Astros vs. Mets

Jacob deGrom pitched 4 innings, allowing one run, and striking out 6.

Pete Alonso hit a home run.

Francisco Lindor hit a home run.


Other Notable Player Performances From Tuesday's Spring Games:

George Springer went 2-4.

Marcell Ozuna hit a three-run home run.

Clayton Kershaw struggled, giving up five runs in 4 innings.

Shane Bieber gave up nine runs, but only one was earned.

Mariners prospect Julio Rodriguez hit a solo home run, going 2-3.

Rangers Nick Solak hit a grand slam.

Joey Gallo went 2-2 with two runs and two RBI.


Wednesday March 17th

Rays vs. Pirates

Austin Meadows hit a home run.

Pirates prospect Nick Gonzales went 2-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Tyler Glasnow was hit hard, allowing four runs in four innings.


Twins vs. Red Sox

Red Sox Bobby Dalbec hit a home grand slam.

Rafael Devers went 2-3, while hitting a three-run home run.

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched five innings, allowing one run and striking out six.


Dodgers vs. White Sox

Will Smith homered, going 1-2.

Walker Buehler pitched four innings, allowing no runs and striking out five.

Kenley Jansen pitched a clean inning, striking out three.

White Sox Lucas Giolito pitched 3.2 innings, allowing two runs.


Indians vs. Reds

Reds Luis Castillo pitched three scoreless innings.

Nick Castellanos hit a home run going 2-2.

Indians Triston McKenzie pitched three innings, giving up two runs.

Jose Ramirez went 1-2.


Other Notable Player Performances From Wednesday's Spring Games:

Phillies Zack Wheeler pitched four innings, giving up no runs.

Tigers Tarik Skubal pitched three innings, walking three and striking out six.

Marlins Sandy Alcantara pitched five innings allowing no runs and striking out nine.

A's Matt Olson homered.

Cardinals Paul Goldschmidt went 1-3 and hit a home run.

Braves Ozzie Albies hit a home run.

Braves Charlie Morton pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out four.

Cubs Willson Contreras went 3-4, driving in 5.



Thursday March 18th

Dodgers vs. D-Backs

Corey Seager went 1-4 with an RBI.

Mookie Betts went 3-4, scoring two runs.

Will Smith went 3-3.

D-Backs David Peralta went 3-4 with three RBI and two runs.


Other Notable Player Performances From Thursday's Games:

White Sox Eloy Jimenez went 2-4 with an RBI.

Brewers Corbin Burnes pitched 3.2 innings, giving up an unearned run and striking out four.

Cardinals prospect Nolan Gorman went 2-2 with three RBI.

Rangers Khris Davis homered twice, going 3-4 with four RBI and two runs.


Friday March 19th

Angels vs. Royals

Royals Carlos Santana went 2-3 with a home run, driving in three.

Angels Jo Adell went 1-3 with an RBI.


Cubs vs. A's

Cubs Zach Davies pitched four scoreless innings, striking out two.

Anthony Rizzo went 3-3 with a home run.

Willson Contreras hit a home run.

Ian Happ went 1-2 with three RBI and one run scored.


Nationals vs. Astros

Nationals Josh Bell hit a three-run home run.

Victor Robles homered.

Michael Brantley homered, while going 2-4 with two RBI and two runs.

Alex Bregman homered, while going 2-3 with one RBI and two runs.

Carlos Correa went 2-3.

Kyle Tucker went 2-4.

Yordan Alvarez went 1-2.


Other Notable Player Performances From Friday's Games:

Mets Pete Alonso went 1-3 with an RBI.

Dodgers Julio Urias pitched four scoreless innings, striking out three.

Indians Franmil Reyes hit a solo home run.

Brewers Christian Yelich went 2-2.

Orioles Trey Mancini went 2-4 with a home run.

Orioles Ryan Mountcastle went 2-4 with 3 RBI.

Braves Ian Anderson pitched 4.2 innings, striking out nine while allowing two runs.

Yankees Deivi Garcia pitched three scoreless innings.

Mariners Kyle Lewis went 2-3 with a home run and two RBI.


Saturday March 20th

Marlins vs. Nationals

Marlins Sixto Sanchez pitched three perfect frames.

Juan Soto scored a run and walked once while going 1-2.


Other Notable Player Performances From Saturday's Games:

Cardinals Dylan Carlson hit a solo home run.

Blue Jays Bo Bichette went 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

Trevor Story hit a home run.

Kris Bryant went 1-3 with two RBI.

White Sox Eloy Jimenez went 1-3 with two RBI.

A's Matt Olson hit a home run while going 3-4 and driving in four.

A's Chris Bassitt pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, only giving up one hit, while striking out five and walking two.


Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed writing about Wednesday's games the most this past week. I like when a lot of action happens so that it makes it harder for me to decide which games and player performances to include in the weekly recaps.
