My 2020 Shortened Season Baseball Predictions

Updated: Jul 14, 2020

The Major League Baseball season will begin, as Max Scherzer of the Nationals throws it's first pitch next Thursday as the sixty game season begins. A two game doubleheader featuring two of the best pitchers in the game going head to head and a World Series favorite beginning their journey to the championship. Baseball will be back and better than ever in the wackiest season in history. Below are my 2020 Baseball predictions for the shortened season.

American League Cy Young Winner: Gerrit Cole- New York Yankees

After finishing second in the American League Cy Young voting last season and striking out a historic 13.8 batters every 9 innings, Gerrit Cole has big expectations from the Yankee faithful heading into the 2020 season.

Other American League Cy Young Favorites:

Justin Verlander- Houston Astros

Shane Bieber- Cleveland Indians

Charlie Morton- Tampa Bay Rays

National League Cy Young Winner: Jacob deGrom- New York Mets

Jacob deGrom has been the most "deGrominant" pitcher in baseball over the past two seasons, as he looks for his third Cy Young is as many seasons. One question remains: Can his team's offense give him run support?

Other NL Cy Young Favorites:

Max Scherzer- Washington Nationals

Walker Buehler- Los Angeles Dodgers

Jack Flaherty- St. Louis Cardinals

AL Rookie Of the Year: Luis Robert- Chicago White Sox

The next future superstar of baseball, Robert has torn up minor league pitching and has earned a spot on the White Sox big league club with something to prove.

Other American League Rookie of the Year Favorites:

Jo Adell- Los Angeles Angels

Jesus Luzardo- Oakland A's

NL Rookie of the Year- Gavin Lux- Los Angeles Dodgers

After debuting at the end of last season, this is Lux's time to shine under the big lights of Los Angeles.

Other NL Rookie of the Year Favorites:

Dylan Carlson- St. Louis Cardinals

MacKenzie Gore- San Diego Padres

AL MVP: Mike Trout- Los Angeles Angels

Even in a shortened season, Trout will still prevail as MVP, adding yet another award to his already amazing resume.

Other AL MVP Favorites:

Alex Bregman: Houston Astros

Anthony Rendon: Los Angeles Angels

Francisco Lindor: Cleveland Indians

NL MVP: Christian Yelich- Milwaukee Brewers

A late season knee injury cost Yelich the MVP last season. Coming back healthy, Yelich will be better than the rest.

Other NL MVP Favorites:

Ronald Acuna Jr.- Atlanta Braves

Cody Bellinger- Los Angeles Dodgers

Juan Soto- Washington Nationals

Mookie Betts- Los Angeles Dodgers

World Series Prediction: New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

With both teams being the favorites from their league, they will both look to lift the World Series trophy high in the air when the season comes to an end.

World Series Champion: Los Angeles Dodgers

For the first time since 1988, the Dodgers will win the World Series in 7 games against the New York Yankees. This star studded Dodger lineup combined with two aces at the top of a rotation that brings deep pitching depth will be wreaking havoc all season long with a clear path to the championship.

Final Thoughts: Making these season predictions is always a hard thing to do, because I'm betting on a player or a certain team to win an award, without them playing a game that has not happened yet. The predictions above, are in my opinion the players who have the best shot at doing so. I am looking forward to the baseball season and what it has to bring!
