2021 MLB Award Winners: My Predictions

The following are my predictions for 2021 MLB Award Winners.

Comeback Player of the Year: Trey Mancini- Orioles

Mancini was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer and missed all of the 2020 season. Now healthy, I expect Mancini to win this award by a landslide. Expect Mancini to hit 20 or more home runs this season with an average around .270.

My Prediction: 73 R, 24 HR, 71 RBI, .269 AVG

AL Rookie of the Year: Ryan Mountcastle- Orioles

After playing 35 games in the 2020 season, slashing .333/.386/.492 Mountcastle is one of the few bright spots in the Orioles lineup. I expect an average of.280 with around 25 home runs. He can play in the outfield and at first base, but his bat will keep him in the lineup on a daily basis.

My Prediction: 69 R, 24 HR, 82 RBI, .281 AVG

Others to Consider:

Bobby Dalbec-(BOS)

Nick Madrigal-(CWS)

Randy Arozarena-(TB)

NL Rookie of the Year: Ke'Bryan Hayes- Pirates

Hayes burst onto the scene last season hitting a ridiculous .376 in 24 games. The third basemen is one of the emerging young stars on a Pirates team that will be one of the worst teams in baseball this season. Expect Hayes to carry the Pirates offense on his shoulders for the majority of the season.

My Prediction: 73 R, 16 HR, 68 RBI, .273 AVG

Others to Consider:

Dylan Carlson-(STL)

Ian Anderson-(ATL)

Cristian Pache-(ATL)

Sixto Sanchez-(MIA)

AL Cy Young: Gerrit Cole- Yankees

Cole is coming off of a solid first season with the Yankees. Cole pitched to a 2.84 ERA over 73 innings pitched in the 2020 shortened season. I expect Cole to finally win the Cy Young in 2021 backed by one of the best offenses in baseball every fifth day he takes the mound. He will rack up wins at a consistent rate, strikeout batters at a high clip, pitch close to 200 innings, and I predict he will have an ERA a little above 3.

My Prediction: 198 IP, 16 Wins, 3.13 ERA, 268 SO, 1.03 WHIP

Others to Consider:

Shane Bieber-(CLE)

Lucas Giolito-(CWS)

NL Cy Young: Jacob deGrom- Mets

No surprise here. I expect deGrom to be great this season and walk away with his third Cy Young Award in four seasons. I predict an ERA below three with a WHIP below one. You know what deGrom brings to the mound every fifth day. The majority of his pitches can reach over 90 MPH with an easy delivery that shows no maximum effort. deGrom is the best pitcher going right now and he should continue his dominant run this season. Now with a better offense, deGrom just needs run support to start tallying wins at a consistent rate.

My Prediction: 201 IP, 15 Wins, 2.53 ERA, 273 SO, 0.97 WHIP

Others to Consider:

Luis Castillo-(CIN)

Max Scherzer-(WSH)

Walker Buehler-(LAD)

Aaron Nola-(PHI)

Trevor Bauer-(LAD)

Yu Darvish-(SD)

AL MVP: Mike Trout- Angels

A safe bet every season to win the award, Mike Trout is as reliable as it gets. Trout, who is entering his age 29 season continues to perform at an elite level. I expect Trout to lead the league in home runs with around 100 RBI as well. Trout is consistent as it gets. He always performs season after season and I expect nothing less of him going into the 2021 campaign.

My Prediction: 109 R, 43 HR, 105 RBI .295 BA

Others to Consider:

Jose Ramirez- (CLE)

Alex Bregman- (HOU)

Aaron Judge- (NYY)

NL MVP: Juan Soto- Nationals

This award could easily go to either Betts, Seager, or Bellinger of the Dodgers, but Juan Soto is one of the top young talents in the game. A one man show in the Nationals offense, Soto will have to provide a spark at a high rate in the Nationals lineup. Soto led the league in OBP, SLG, and OPS last season after dealing with COVID-19 to begin the 2020 season.

My Prediction: 104 R, 39 HR, 105 RBI, .310 BA

Others to Consider:

Cody Bellinger- (LAD)

Corey Seager- (LAD)

Mookie Betts- (LAD)

Fernando Tatis Jr.-(SD)

World Series Prediction: Dodgers over Yankees

The Los Angeles Dodgers are my pick to repeat as World Series Champions. The depth the Dodgers have is just incredible. Having three MVP contenders in the lineup does not hurt either. The Dodgers will win in six games against the New York Yankees.

Final Thoughts: This was one of my favorite posts to write. I love making predictions and even enjoy being wrong because baseball is so unexpected! Now let's play some baseball!!!

See you at the Ballpark!!!
