The college football regular season is coming to an end, which leaves one big question: Who should win the Heisman Trophy?
To win the Heisman is a huge accomplishment, it's the biggest award college football has to offer. Winning the award can make the player a top draft pick in the upcoming NFL draft. The question remains who are the favorites to take home the trophy this year?
The following four players below are the players who I think have the best chance of being a Heisman finalist and going on to win the trophy.
Chase Young- DE, Ohio State- Young has arguably been the best defensive player in the country this season, racking up 13.5 sacks through week 12. A two game suspension of violating NCAA rules could factor into the decision of him not winning the trophy. It is more difficult for a defensive player to win the trophy, the last defensive player to win the trophy was Michigan's Charles Woodson in 1997.
Joe Burrow- QB, LSU- Burrow has been lighting it up for the Tigers this season, beating undefeated Alabama on the road earlier this season. He has led LSU to the top of the college football world and is one of the odds on teams to win the National Championship in January. Burrow has 38 TD's and only 6 INT's through week 12 and is my pick to win the Heisman.
Jalen Hurts- QB, Oklahoma- Hurts has played well with the Sooners after transferring from Alabama. Through 12 weeks of the season he has 15 TD's and only 1 interception. It would be difficult for him to win the Heisman this year, considering the previous two years Oklahoma's own pair of quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray have won the trophy. Hurts and the Sooners came back from a 25 point deficit to beat Baylor in week 12, the biggest comeback in Oklahoma history which can only help his Heisman hopes.
Justin Fields- QB, Ohio State- The final favorite for the Heisman trophy, is Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. Fields was highly recruited out of high school two years ago and committed to play at Georgia. Considering Georgia already had Jake Fromm, Fields would have to wait to get his turn. Fields decommitted from Georgia and recommitted to Ohio State and is having a breakout season. Through 12 weeks of the season he has 2164 passing yards, 31 TD's, and only 1 Int.
